The Illusionist -- L’illusionniste
Directed by Sylvain Chomet
Voice acting by Jean-Claude Donda, Eilidh Rankin

As vaudeville’s popularity wanes in 1950s France and his stage act loses its lustre, a conjurer takes his rabbit and top hat and moves to Britain to perform tricks in pubs.

He enjoys a new enthusiasm for his art when he gains a fan in a girl who believes in magic.

This touching tale was based on an unproduced script written by Jacques Tati, and developed decades later by animator Sylvain Chomet, with a resplendent hand-drawn Edinburgh.

“Bittersweet, moving and utterly beautiful: a love letter to cinema and to Scotland.”

Named Best Animated Film by the Césars in France, the European Film Awards, and New York critics
